The Great Day Out 2019
How do I tell you about my food preferences and dietary needs?
If you do not have a special dietary need, then you do not need to do anything. You can choose your food option on the day. Vegetarian/vegan options will be available for guests from the standard food options (both hot and cold).
Please see the ‘What’s on’ page for more details.
If you have any food intolerances, allergens or specific needs, you can request a special (cold) packed lunch to be prepared for you by filling in this form
Your personalised packed lunch can then be collected from the Registration Desk when you arrive at the event.
If you want to have a hot food option, the set menu in the Hide Restaurant may be able to accommodate your needs. No pre-orders for special dietary needs can be made.
Please Note – guests can ask for the zoo’s allergen logs which will be available at all food outlets
Is the zoo open to members of the public?
Yes, the zoo will still be open to members of the public like normal, but GWR will have their own private zones on the West Lawn and in the Pavilion and GWR colleagues will be able to access all other zoo areas. This is why GWR numbers are capped, we do not have exclusive use of the zoo and the zoo has to ensure that footfall is within safe parameters through the day.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
Yes, you must bring your event tickets with you. If your group exceeds the maximum number of tickets held, the extra members of your group will need to pay the appropriate zoo entrance fee.
Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn’t match the person who attends?
No. The named ticket holder (ticket requestor) must be in attendance. In the event this is an issue please contact the Colleague Experience and People Insight Team.
What are my transport/parking options for getting to
and from the event?
Travel on all GWR services is free to all those covered by an event ticket, not just GWR pass holders (if accompanied by the GWR travel pass holder). A GWR shuttle bus service (provided by First Bus) will operate between BTM and the zoo. Ticket holders can also travel on local First Bus services. Parking is available on-site at a cost of £4.00.
Please see the ‘Getting there’ page for more information.
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
The ticket requestor (EventBrite purchaser and GWR colleague) must show their GWR ID on arrival with their group. There are no minimum age requirements.
Will there be support/guides available to GWR guests?
There will be lots of GWR volunteers to help you get the most out of your visit. These will be identifiable by their colourful sashes:
What do I need to bring?
Please dress comfortably, there may be a lot of walking. Please also come prepared for the forecasted weather. There will be several areas of the zoo where you can take cover (including the Pavilion), and we will have a marquee on the West Lawn.
If I have a child aged 2 years or under, do I need a ticket for them
No, you only need event tickets for adults and children 2 years and older.
Are there baby changing facilities?
There is a dedicated changing room near the nectar garden and the majority of toilets have baby changing facilities.
Is there First Aid on site?
The zoo has multiple first aid trained staff on site and a dedicated first aid room located by the Splash play area.
Bristol Zoo is a non-smoking zoo. This includes Vapes and eCigarettes.
If I lose an item at the zoo, where can I find this?
Lost property is stored at the main zoo reception. Please call
01179 747 300 for all lost and found matters.
Is the site accessible to wheelchair users and guests with restricted mobility?
The Zoo is over 180 years old and contains a number of old buildings and structures – three of which are Grade II listed. However, most of the Zoo is accessible for wheelchair users and those with walking difficulties.
